The End of Compassion in India

The government in India has launched a campaign to stop Christian charities from working in the country. Compassion International cares for hundreds of thousands of children in India. Their ministry to India has comprised a significant portion of Compassion’s total operating budget. In our church, there are hundreds of children sponsored in India. March 15 Compassion International is forced to stop operations in this country.

Compassion has put together a response and is able to answer questions here. Please pray actively and do what you can to support this ministry.

It is sad whenever a government opposes the care of its own children out of fear of the influence of Christ. In India, they fear that children who meet Christ will become less “Indian” — they will lose their identity somehow.

We often fear the loss of identity when we draw close to Christ. That’s true for all of us. I think, “If I give my life to Christ, will I still be Tim? Will Jesus change me into someone else? If I die to self and live for Christ, what will the new me look like?”

The truth is this: your true identity is found in Christ. You won’t lose your identity when you walk toward the Lord; you will find it.
